Community Forum > Emulex LPe31002-M6

Hi,

I have a PowerEdge R640 with an Emulex LPe31002-M6 HBA in it. I wanted to use QS5.1 as a NAS gateway over a FC block storage unit (SAN). QS51 recognize the Emulex as an initiator (which is what I need) and the storage unit is recognizing the login from the QS host (single host for now). Up to that point, everything seems fine. However, as soon as I assign a LUN to that host, I start receiving the following error message:

[ 2931.620221] sd 17:0:0:0: emc: Found valid sense data 0x 5, 0x24, 0x 0 while sending CLARiiON trespass command.
[ 2931.620700] sd 17:0:0:0: emc: at SP A Port 6 (bound, default SP A)
[ 2931.620703] device-mapper: multipath: Failing path 8:240.
[ 2931.642806] sd 5:0:0:0: emc: ALUA failover mode detected
[ 2931.642813] sd 5:0:0:0: emc: at SP B Port 6 (owned, default SP A)
[ 2936.590027] device-mapper: multipath: Reinstating path 8:240.
[ 2936.624032] sd 17:0:0:0: emc: ALUA failover mode detected

And it just continue without no end. I don't see that LUN from the QS51 GUI. However, from the CLI, I see the following:

qadmin@quantastor:~$ sudo fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sdb: 500 GiB, 536870912000 bytes, 1048576000 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 8192 bytes / 4194304 bytes

Disk /dev/mapper/mpathm: 500 GiB, 536870912000 bytes, 1048576000 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 8192 bytes / 4194304 bytes

I did try to trespass the LUN to the other controller and it stop the messages but I still don't see the LUN from QS51 so I can't create a pool on it. After trespassing the LUN to the second controller, I got this:

[ 3284.739735] sd 17:0:0:0: Mode parameters changed
[ 3284.741924] sd 17:0:0:0: Asymmetric access state changed
[ 3284.780662] sd 17:0:0:0: emc: ALUA failover mode detected
[ 3284.780670] sd 17:0:0:0: emc: at SP A Port 6 (owned, default SP A)

Since, there is not more error added to this that are related to the HBA. But still no LUN to be used for a pool.

What did I missed? Is there anything I can do from that point to get access to the LUN?

Thank you.

Etienne

Hi Etienne,
I suspect the /etc/multipath.conf configuration file on the QS system is not yet configured properly for your EMC Clariion with ALUA failover mode. The best way forward would be to request a go-to-meeting via support@osnexus.com so that one of our support engineers can check the configuration and help sort it out.
Best,
Steve
