Community Forum > ZFS raid 0 over hardware raid 1 sets a good idea?

HI.... according to this admin article.. raid 10 is the most optimal for virtualization...

we have a lot of Gen7 HP dl385 servers... would it be a good idea to create raid 1 sets on the Controller and use Quantastor for a raid 0 pool?

Hello,

Ideally, you want to let ZFS handle the data redundancy as it will give you the best ability to find and correct any errors that occur. You can do this (assuming you are consuming individual disks from a RAID controller on these servers) by going to "Controllers & Enclosures" in the left hand menu, then clicking "Create Pass-thru Units" up top from there. This should create RAID0 pass through disks to be consumed by ZFS. Once that is done, go ahead and create RAID10 Storage Pools from those disks and you should be good to go!
