Community Forum > Host configuration back

We are using Quantastore storage for a very large deployment in SoftLayer. We are working on a back up strategy. Can you help us with the details with how to back up the host configuration, Is there any scripts readly available. If the system admin needs to write a script , which all files should be backed up for a faster restoration.

Hi Joseph,
QuantaStor keeps its internal database at /var/opt/osnexus/quantastor/osn.db but it automatically backs it up into every available online storage pool every hour so that you don't have to worry about backing it up. The database is a lightweight Sqlite based database so typically it is only about 1MB in size. You could write a script to backup the osn.db file to another host via a NFS share or something like that.

If the boot drives were replaced or the data drives were moved to a new system you can use the 'Recovery Manager' in the web UI to recover from a database backup in one of the available storage pools. Essentially the recovery manager is just copying the specified database back into place and restarts the service. You could do this manually like so:

service quantastor stop
cp mybackup.osn.db /var/opt/osnexus/quantastor/osn.db
service quantastor start

In general though it's best to restart the appliance after recovering the database because the system's internal ID will have changed and that effects the configuration of the target drivers.
